I don’t know exactly when it started. Maybe with a thesis I wrote in my twenties, about spaces and transitions, about homes as a kind of language. Or maybe earlier, in that instinct I’ve always had—to observe places, linger on details, seek harmony. Today, I look at homes like that: with attention, but without too much solemnity. I look for the details that linger. I listen more than I describe. And I try to tell their story with light words, just enough to let them breathe. I’ve learned that true elegance lives in things that are lived-in: rugs walked on, crystal glasses actually used, silver polished just enough for an ordinary dinner on an ordinary day. Rooms, like people, shouldn’t be perfected. They should be allowed to breathe. This is what I do: I recognize the right time. To pause, to choose, to let go. And every now and then, to allow yourself the simplest luxury: feeling at home. Non so esattamente quando è cominciato. Forse con una tesi, scritta a vent’anni, che parlava di spazi e di passaggi, di case come linguaggi. O forse prima, in quell’istinto che ho sempre avuto di osservare i luoghi, di soffermarmi sui particolari, di cercare armonia. Oggi le case le guardo così: con attenzione, ma senza troppa solennità. Cerco i dettagli che restano. Le ascolto, più che descriverle. E provo a raccontarle con parole leggere, che non spieghino tutto, solo il necessario. Ho imparato che l’eleganza vera sta nelle cose vissute: i tappeti calpestati, i cristalli usati, gli argenti lucidati quel tanto che basta per apparecchiare una cena normale, in un giorno qualunque. Le stanze, come le persone, non vanno rese perfette. Vanno lasciate respirare. Il mio lavoro è questo: riconoscere il tempo giusto. Per fermarsi, per scegliere, per lasciar andare. E ogni tanto, concedersi il lusso più semplice: sentirsi a casa.
